In Memory of Barb Gwin
We lost a true friend July 14, 2009. A gentle soul with a heart of gold and a sense of humor that never failed, Barb left us much too soon and suddenly. A truly creative writer, she'd be editing out my cliches if she were here, but I am too heartbroken to find the right words to express the depth of our loss. She cared about all of us so much, and she took the time to let us know it. I hope, somehow, she knew how much we cared about her, too. The loss to her beloved Matt and Jeff, her students and their parents to whom she generously gave her time, talents and patience, and the faculty of Libertyville High School is immeasurable. I pray each of us finds a way to keep her beautiful spirit alive in the world.-- Sue

Amen, Sue, amen. --Meredith
I must admit I have been conflicted about the juxtaposition of Sue’s kind words in memory of Barb and Charlotte’s COCONUT CAKE recipe that had been posted on our book club blog months ago. Then I starting thinking, “wouldn’t that have been just the kind of thing that would have caused her to commence with that gasping sound she’d always make on the onset of that infectious laugh of hers?” Of course it would have all been followed with a witty comeback that would have had us all chuckling. We are all going to miss her so very much.
It was good to see you all today, even though the circumstances were so junky. I think it affirmed for me that I need to take the time to maintain connections and say what I appreciate about people and let them know when I think of them. I will always regret the assumption that everything was o.k. after her surgery and my failure to even send a card...
